Alaha Village Borehole Project 2020
OPAC ‘WATER FOR LIFE PROJECT’
Scarcity of water is prevalent in Nigeria, and this is getting worse day by day. It is predicted that by 2025, close to 230 million Africans will be facing water scarcity, and up to 460 million will be living in water-stressed areas. This could be one of the reasons why Olumo Progressive Association Canada, a socio-cultural, non-political association which is also a group of Egba and Yewa indigenes in Canada decided to invest their thoughts, time, money, and energy in WATER FOR LIFE PROJECT for villages in Ogun State of Nigeria. The construction of a borehole that gushes out drinkable water has brought laughter, joy and happiness to sons and daughters including everyone living in Ojoo village in Odeda local government area of Ogun State. This borehole is a special water for life project funded by Mr. Afolabi Bakare led Olumo progressive association Canada. In his words, Mr. Bakare said it is the belief of Olumo Progressive association Canada that water supply for each person in Ojoo village must be sufficient and continuous for personal and domestic uses which includes drinking, personal hygiene and sanitation, washing of clothes, food preparation and many more. However, this is not the first water for life borehole project funded by OPAC. In 2020, the project was in ALAHA Village in Obafemi Owode Local Government area, under the able leadership of the Past President, Mrs. Aina Muritala-Ajose. In 2021, it was YESUFA VILLAGE in Abeokuta North Area of Ogun State. OPAC is not only noted for borehole projects, but also have programmes that include giving medical equipment to Abeokuta indigenes every year, during Lisabi Day Celebrations, donation of food items and cash to Food banks, visit to orphanage homes, cash gifts and other donations to hospitals.
