Olumo Canada

Our story

United We Stand

The Olumo Progressive Association of Canada was founded by a small but determined group of Egba people who recognized the need for a structured community to preserve their heritage and support one another in their new home. Named after the iconic Olumo Rock — a symbol of strength, protection, and identity for the Egba people — OPAC carries that spirit into its mission.

Over the years, OPAC has grown into a vibrant, nationwide association with members in provinces across Canada, hosting cultural events, providing welfare support, and building bridges between the Egba diaspora and the homeland.

Our core values

Omoluabi

The Yoruba ideal of good character — integrity, respect, and hard work are at the foundation of everything we do.

Unity (Isokan)

We are stronger together. OPAC exists to unite Egba people across all provinces of Canada.

Service

We serve our members and give back to communities both in Canada and in Egbaland, Nigeria.

Heritage

We actively preserve and transmit Egba language, traditions, music, food, and history.

Our vision

To be the foremost Egba cultural and social association in Canada — a recognized voice for the Egba diaspora, a support network for every member, and a bridge between generations and continents.

Affiliation

NATIONAL BODY AFFILIATION

Egba National Association USA/Canada (ENA)

OPAC is a proud local chapter of the Egba National Association USA/Canada — the umbrella body representing and uniting all Egba people across North America. ENA provides national-level coordination, advocacy, and connection to Egbaland for all its chapters.

As the Canadian chapter, OPAC operates under ENA’s constitution and participates in joint national programs, conventions, and initiatives — amplifying the voice of Canada’s Egba community at the North American level.

OPAC's place within ENA

OPAC functions as the Canadian chapter of ENA, operating under ENA’s overarching constitution while maintaining its own local governance, elections, and programming. Key relationships include:
• Participation in ENA’s biennial North American convention
• Representation of Canadian Egba members at the ENA national executive level
• Collaboration on joint fundraising and Egbaland development projects
• Shared cultural programs and cross-chapter events

Beyond ENA, OPAC maintains strong ties with Egba cultural organizations in Nigeria and participates in the broader Yoruba and Nigerian Canadian community network. We are a non-partisan, non-profit voluntary association registered in Canada.
